Portable Generators for Sale
A portable generator provides a handy electrical power wherever and whenever you need it when the mains electrical power is down or not available at a job site or campsite.
If you are looking to buy a new generator, it can be pretty confusing to understand the differences between generators. Here we will try to explain the differences between portable generators and give you the advantages of each.
What fuel source will you have the easiest access to?
Generators also come with various engine types and power output ratings.
Are you only planning to power a few devices for the night or will you need a daily power source that you can trust for months at a time?
You can also choose between standard generators or inverter variants.
Both have their uses and can be valuable assets.
Silenced generators have been fully enclosed in a tough soundproof casing, referred as an acoustic cabinet. The noise level is less than an open framed generator but higher than an inverter generator.
Inverter Generators Vs Generator
One of the most significant battles of the 19th century was fought not over land or resources but to establish the type of electricity that powers our buildings.
At the very end of the 1800s, American electrical pioneer Thomas Edison (1847–1931) went out of his way to demonstrate that direct current (DC) was a better way to supply electrical power than alternating current (AC), a system backed by his Serbian-born arch-rival Nikola Tesla (1856–1943). Edison tried all kinds of devious ways to convince people that AC was too dangerous, from electrocuting an elephant to (rather cunningly) supporting the use of AC in the electric chair for administering the death penalty. Even so, Tesla's system won the day and the world has pretty much run on AC power ever since. So, a power inverter, or inverter, is an electronic device or circuitry that changes direct current to alternating current. The input voltage, output voltage and frequency, and overall power handling depend on the design of the specific device or circuitry.
The only trouble is, though many of our appliances are designed to work with AC, small-scale power generators often produce DC. That means if you want to run something like an AC-powered gadget from a DC car battery in a mobile home, you need a generator that will convert DC to AC—an inverter.
Conventional generators are the most widely used today, also because they have been around the longest. How they work has remained essentially unchanged. They run on diesel, gasoline which in simple terms, powers a motor attached to an alternator that produces electricity. The generator’s motor runs at a constant speed (usually 1500 - 3600 rpm) to produce the required electrical current the engine’s rpm should not fluctuate, otherwise, it will alter the frequency (Hertz) of electrical output.
While the standard generators operate with constant speed, the inverter generators can adjust the speed according to the power requirements. They only produce enough power to run the electrical devices or appliances placing a load on them. This means that they will ultimately conserve fuel better. This feature makes the inverter generators to be more fuel efficient and thus environment-friendly electrical equipment. The inverter generators are in fact generators that have built-in inverters.
High-Quality Electrical Output and Parallel Capability
The technology inverter generators use, enables them to produce power similar to the power which is used in homes. The inverter generator can also be paired with another identical unit. This way the power is doubled. The parallel capability allows you to use two small and lightweight inverters instead of using on the big and bulky conventional generator for any type of application, in your home or outdoors.
What Are the Benefits of a Diesel Generator?
Diesel engines are more fuel efficient than petrol engines. Some diesel engines consume up to half as much fuel as compatible petrol engines. Also, diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol meaning diesel-powered generators are cheaper to run. Diesel powered engines require less maintenance. This is in part due to diesel engines not having spark plugs or carburettors. This means no need to replace spark plugs or rebuild carburettors. The major ongoing service requirement for a diesel engine is regular oil changes.
A diesel engine is much longer lasting. When compared to a typical petrol engine, a diesel engine can last up to 3 times longer in your generator
Diesel fuel has less risk of ignition when compared to petrol. Often portable diesel generators are transported on the back of diesel utes. This means you don’t need to have two different fuel types when you’re out and about doing work.
Inverter generators produce a cleaner and more stable power supply without spikes of current flows, making them safe for delicate electronics such as tv’s and computers and smartphones. Ideal for caravan and camping use. Inverter generators offer a number of other benefits, including less noise, lightweight design, and greater fuel efficiency compared to conventional generators.
